Performance wellness and injury prevention

Performance Wellness and Injury Prevention LLC  (PWIP) was established in 2014. My involvement in PTC Inc. continues as a Co-Owner (since 1994).

We have been providing Physical Therapy services to residents of Ventura County since 1986 and to the residents of Oxnard since 1994. Our Wellness/Fitness Services have been utilized by many employers in the county for injury prevention and rehabilitation (Technicolor, Proctor and Gamble-Kal Star, and Gills Onions to name a few). The staff providing these services are licensed health care providers, Licensed Physical Therapist, Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Personal Trainer, and Registered Dietician (Refer to Staff for further information).

We have been providing Wellness/Fitness services to the City of Oxnard Fire Department since 2001, Police Department since 2003, to the City of Ventura Fire Department since 2008, and the Ventura County Fire Protection Agency since 2013. During the course of the last 14 years we have evolved the Fire Department Wellness/Program to a high level in comparison to other departments across the United States.

Over the last 3 years we have seen the Wellness Programs grow and have expanded our staff to meet the needs. All of our staff are licensed health care providers with experience in training and treating/restoring Firefighters/Police Officers to their job. We have continued to upgrade our education on an annual basis to keep up with the latest exercise trends/fads.

We attended the International Association of Firefighters Meeting in Chicago and Los Angeles.  At both meetings w had the opportunity to network and engage many other Wellness Coordinators to discuss numerous topics. Out of the Chicago meeting, we (Performance Wellness and the City of Oxnard Fire Department Union and Management representatives) became part of a national study on firefighter fitness (Refer to Skidmore Study).

One of the first tangible measures as to the commitment and success of a Wellness Program is participation. In the past couple of years Fire participation in the Fitness/Wellness Program was at an all time high with 85% of personnel participating in the annual assessments. This statistic cannot be under appreciated. It demonstrates that the Departments have a strong consistent commitment to keeping fit for duty/life.

Our programs success has been a joint effort by all involved to create a healthy, safe, and productive environment. In the following pages you will be able to see that our program addresses the following key points:

A physical fitness and wellness program that is educational and rehabilitative.
Confidentiality of fitness evaluations and assessments
A holistic wellness approach that includes:

Fitness
ability and skills of uniformed personnel to successfully accomplish defined fire ground/emergency tasks

Rehabilitation
Through Consultation, Screening and Quarterly Reviews

Nutrition
Individualized counseling on diet and supplementation
Long Term-Commitment to see firefighters retire in a healthy physical state.
